Ever wondered what people are Googling about New Orleans? Maybe it’s not a question that’s crossed your mind, but now that I’ve mentioned it, you’re a little curious, right?

It turns out that Google search data can reveal a lot about what people are interested in within and around our city. By analyzing average monthly searches over the past year, we’ve put together a snapshot of New Orleans’ most popular online searches.

Here’s what everyone’s buzzing about when they search “New Orleans.”

Top 10 Most-Googled Terms and Phrases in New Orleans

  1. New Orleans Saints
  2. New Orleans Pelicans
  3. New Orleans weather
  4. New Orleans hotels
  5. NCIS New Orleans
  6. Craigslist New Orleans
  7. Things to do in New Orleans
  8. Flights to New Orleans

  10. Hilton New Orleans Riverside

Okay okay, nothing too surprising here. Sports teams, weather, hotels, and NCIS…  Let’s dig a bit deeper into some categories to find some fun stuff:

Tourism & Hospitality: 3 Million+ Monthly Searches

It’s no secret that New Orleans is a tourist hot spot, and search data proves it. With attractions like the WWII Museum, the Ritz Carlton, Louis Armstrong Park, and Cafe du Monde bringing in 50k+ searches each month, it’s clear that people worldwide are Googling their way through New Orleans’ landmarks (and bakeries – probably looking for king cakes).

Most Searched Hotel: Hilton New Orleans Riverside (with the Roosevelt close behind)

Most Searched Attraction: WWII Museum (followed closely by the NO Museum of Art)

Sports: Over 2.5 Million+ Monthly Searches

When it comes to sports, New Orleans is a powerhouse. Saints game days, stats, and ticket info drive the majority of these searches, which surge during football season and major matchups. While basketball has a loyal following, football remains New Orleans’ top-searched sport.

New Orleans Saints related searches rack up 1.5 million searches each month.

Pelicans related searches make up around 1 million.

I will note though, people are very interested in Pels – Lakers matchups, with “lakers vs new orleans pelicans player stats” searched for around 90,000 times (likely around 90,000 times in each of the months they played last season).

Weather: 750,000+ Monthly Searches

New Orleans’ weather has a consistent level of interest, especially during hurricane season and peak tourist months (and when you’re just wondering how it’s only 90 degrees when it feels like 190). People also still search for Hurricane Ida related things 22,000 times a month.

Food & Dining: 500,000+ Monthly Searches

As a top culinary destination, New Orleans is known for food, and search data proves it. People are regularly searching for where to find the best brunch, dinner, and Cajun or Creole dishes, which shows just how big food is to our city’s identity.

Top Searched Restaurants:

  1. Commander’s Palace
  2. Peche
  3. Brennan’s
  4. Ruby Slipper
  5. Copeland’s

Real Estate: 147,870 Monthly Searches

With terms related to homes, rentals, and property in New Orleans, this category is a steady performer. People are clearly interested in the real estate market, whether they’re considering moving to the city or looking for investment opportunities.

Taylor Swift: 100,000+ Monthly Searches

That’s it. She’s the whole category. Here’s a fun fact: in recent months, four times as many people searched for Taylor Swift’s New Orleans tour information than for local services like plumbers or electricians. She’s big, folks.

NCIS New Orleans: 128,300 Monthly Searches

And then there’s the wildcard: NCIS. This TV show set in New Orleans has created a cultural phenomenon all its own. Apparently a lot of people still watch and love NCIS. That and (like me) instead of actually watching it they spend half the show searching the cast and telling their wife, “Oh that’s what he was in!”
